"Roningai (Samurai Town, Story 1 and 2)" A representative film directed by Mashahiro Makino, son of Shozo Makino ("the father of Japanese film"). For a time, Mashahiro Makino was at the forefront of the Japanese film industry. This film lent status to ensemble casts that did not rely on famous stars. The unique setting of the samurai town, exquisite camera work, and fast-paced sword fighting scenes all have an original appeal that audiences can relate to even today.
"Sozenji Baba" In this ambitious film, Makino deals with the difficult issue of agony in a person who killed for revenge. It is a film that was held in high repute, but has not been preserved in its entirety. It is said to be a lost masterpiece, holding the title by int of its reputation. |
