Description Institutional/Public Performance Rights
The ability of the artist to determine the color of a subject and then to duplicate that color on canvas is crucially important. The painter needs, one, to have a thorough knowledge of color
theory to know how certain colors interact and, two, hands-on experience to help put that theory to practical use. This video provides both.

In this program, art expert Sharyn Pak addresses the four most important characteristics of any color: hue, value, intensity and color bias. Then, through four easy-to-follow demonstrations Pak shows how to control those characteristics for the best results.

The DVD is divided into several chapters starting with an introduction to color mixing followed by a review of all materials and tools. Then each of the subsequent four chapters deals with a
specifi c color characteristic. The chapter on hue addresses the 12 basic colors of the spectrum and shows how to mix colors to create a color wheel. In the section on value, viewers are asked
to create color value scales to learn how to lighten or darken a color. The episode on intensity discusses color vibrancy, and illustrated by making a color intensity chart. And the chapter on
color bias deals with color undertone, and how to make a color bias wheel.

The video culminates in a demonstration by Sharyn Pak using the knowledge of color characteristics to mix and execute a still life painting.

Viewers are encouraged to follow along with the demonstrations and are provided with a wealth of charts and diagrams that can be downloaded and printed from the computer.
